Biodiversity Impact Analytics powered by the Global Biodiversity Score™ database & methodology (BIA-GBS™)
This methodology applies the concept of double materiality across entire portfolios, enabling financial institutions to simultaneously assess the impacts of multiple asset classes on nature and evaluate their dependencies on ecosystem services. It provides the concrete metrics necessary for the rigorous integration of biodiversity-related financial risks and strategic asset allocation.
BIA-GBS™ methodology focuses on areas where business activities interact directly with nature. We base our approach on the framework established by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), which identifies the main human-driven pressures affecting global biodiversity.
BIA-GBS™ offers two ways to measure companies' dependence on ecosystem services, by calculating two scores: an average dependency score and a critical dependency score.
Designed to support financial institutions, Biodiversity Impacts Analytics powered by GBS™ provides indicators of impacts on and dependencies of biodiversity of each entity or instrument individually before aggregating the results at the portfolio level

Dual materiality
Measure both your portfolio's footprint (MSA·km²) and its financial dependencies on 21 critical ecosystem services.
Carbon4 Finance offers flexible and secure data integration methods designed to fit seamlessly into your existing workflows, ensuring smooth portfolio management for your entire team.
Value chain approach
Captures environmental pressures across Scopes 1, 2, and 3—both upstream and downstream—where the vast majority of impacts on biodiversity occur.
Corporations, financial institutions, and sovereigns
Apply a unified, rigorous framework to assess the impacts on biodiversity and related dependencies for corporations, financial institutions, and sovereign entities.
Scientific expertise
Leverages the combined 38 years of environmental experience of the Carbone 4 Group and CDC Biodiversité (GBS tool).
